Jeff Tomlin - 2003-2023

Career Highlights 

  • Led the Islanders to state playoffs in 19 of his 21 years at GI including four district championships and six HAC championships / 13 Quarterfinal appearances, 4 Semi-Final appearances and 1 State Finals appearance.  

  • Coaching Record at Grand Island 148-74

  • 2014 GI Independent Boys Coach of the Year Story

  • Coach Mike Behrens Award Winner (Huskerland Prep) 2013 & 2018

  • Semper Fi COY as Awarded by the USMC 2016

  • HUDL/NCA Nebraska FB Coach of the Year 2018

  • NFHS State FB Coach of the Year 2018-2019

  • 2018 Class A State runner-up

  • Head Coach at Alliance from 1994-2002

  • Started coaching career in O'Neill in 1988

  • Participated in Shrine Bowl as Head Coach in 2008, Assistant in 1999, and player in 1984

Mark Fritch - 2000-2002

Career Highlights

  • Took over Papillion LaVista South program in the school's first year of existence in 2003. He coached there until 2011.

  • Started coaching career in 1998 at Tri Center Neola, IA

Greg Uhrmacher - 1997-1999

Career Highlights

  • Member of the Islander coaching staff from 1976-2013

  • Defensive Coordinator at Senior High for 16 Islander playoff teams including 1978 Championship and 1987 & 1990 Runner-up teams

  • 2018 Islander Football Hall of Fame Inductee

  • Started his coaching career in Superior in 1971, moved to Anselmo-Merna in 1973, and was an assistant coach for Claire Boroff at Nebraska-Kearney in 1975

  • Led Oakland high school to undefeated state championship in 1951 

Orv Qualset - 1969-1971

Career Highlights

  • 2017 Inductee into the Islander Football Hall of Fame for his contributions as a Football & Track Coach, and his overall contributions to Grand Island Senior High

  • 1970 squad earned a number five postseason ranking from the Omaha World Herald.

  • Selected as an assistant coach in the 1972 Nebraska Shrine Bowl.
